Sukriti Vidyut Udyog Office Space

The scope of this project was quite different. It was an inspiring journey for us as we worked in collaboration with senior architects Mr. Neilratn and Ms. Supriti Mittal from Pondicherry who happened to be our client's sister. The civil structure of the factory office was already designed and executed by them when we were introduced to this project. An office block was built over an existing ground floor which was a part of the factory premise. Our task was to design the interiors of the office and the facia of the building taking the ideas of the parent architects forward.

The idea behind the elevation design was to give a second skin to the facia so that it reduces the heat gain inside the building. A continuous skin of louvers made of perforated metal sheets placed at an angle vertically has been run on the balcony of two sides of the office block. It cuts direct heat sun glare and allows for a space for keeping planters and window coolers for the common workstation area. It lets the foliage of plants to peek out and hang down from the balcony while it hides the visibility of the cooler units from the road.

A central cut-out in the office area with skylight above captures soft light into the office space. The main concept was to create an eye soothing, simple workspace with openness and a flawless approach. An unostentatious and demur material and colour palette with shades of wood, grey and white was chosen, which reflects the simple and humble personality of the owners. Inserts of blue at places add more life to the interiors. Ceiling has been kept bare and painted in grey to give an industrial look.
